Quentin has done worse

Inglorious Bastards Director: Quentin Tarantino Cast: Brad Pitt, M茅lanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz Rated: 18A Running time: 149 minutes

Quentin Tarantino has made a name for himself. If nothing else you know you are going to see some phenomenal acting and some very clever dialogue.

In that respect Inglorious Bastards is most definitely a Tarantino film. His best? Not by a long shot. But even the worst Tarantino film is better than most of the schlock being peddled these days.

By now you've probably heard the plot, which is being touted as the ultimate Jewish revenge film. The film opens with chapter one in Nazi-occupied France. The bastards are a handful of American Jewish soldiers who have only one purpose, and that is to kill Nazis. Not killing them nicely either, but killing them in a way that will spread fear far and wide.

The leader of the bastards is the always-enjoyable Brad Pitt who John-Waynes his way through the film. At the same time another story forms with a young Jewish theatre owner who catches the eye of a soldier and next thing you know is hosting a Nazi night.

Now in almost every film, the make or break point is the villain. Without evil there can be no good, and there is absolutely fantastic evil in this film in the form of The Jew Hunter played by Christoph Waltz.

The only disappointing thing was the lack of glue holding the story together. Yes there are great performances and scenes but the magic that usually holds Tarantino's audiences rapt seems absent. It's a good time, but a long time.
