"I don't like this. It's like shooting fish in a barrel." - Man A
"Yeah, well sometimes those fish deserve to be shot." - Man B
There is no way to review this film without talking about Borat. Understandably so, since when you come out of nowhere with a humongous pop culture phenomenon, people are going to use that as the stick by which all other works will be judged.
Fair enough since Sacha Baron Cohen (aka: AliG, Borat and Br眉no) has set a whole new standard for ambush entertainment with a skill and dedication that is truly impressive.
This time out Sacha is Br眉no, an over-the-top flaming Austrian fashion reporter. And like all of Baron Cohen's characters, he's chasing the American dream - in this case, being a celebrity.
This time around I was actually shocked there were still people in America who don't know him. But there are, and he found more than a few of them to say what they believe. And let's face it, that's dangerous when the camera is rolling.
Things like a woman agreeing to liposuction her two-year-old (to remove those pesky 10 pounds) to get a photo shoot and the Oh I won't ruin it, but I assure you it's brilliant. Equally cool are the people who show patience and understanding. It's rare but satisfying.
Even without the novelty or element of surprise, I enjoyed by Borat. Br眉no definitely stands as a quality piece of entertainment.
