An independent "jazz cat" turned rocker, intrigued with the popular local venue while researching stops for his tour, is bringing his ever-popular tunes to the Brew Pub Saturday (June 5).
The Brew Pub continues its dedication of providing first class shows at affordable prices - that would be free - and getting as many diverse acts as possible. Sean Hayden's catchy riffs and insightful lyrics will entertain patrons starting at 9 p.m.
"A friend of mine told me about the Howe Sound Brew Pub and what a great venue it was so I checked it out," said Hayden, "and just from checking out who was playing there it seemed as though it would be a really good fit for this tour."
This independent Canadian singer-songwriter met critical success after putting out his self-titled debut album with eight tracks designed to have listeners rocking out or chilling out, depending on the mood and selection.
"I usually define my music as organic singer-songwriter rock with bits of pop jazz," he said.
His songs effortlessly run the gamut between in-your-face rock instrumentals and yearning singer-songwriter melodies to reflective lyrical ballads and funky upbeat light-heartedness.
"I do write all my own lyrics for the most part," said Hayden, "and often it's at least a reflection of what's going on in my life."
Hayden's solo acoustic tour started in early May, a year after he released his first album, and will continue into July. He's performed 22 shows in May in communities and cities across 小蓝视频 and Alberta.
Born in Ottawa and raised in Vancouver, Hayden said he was obsessed with all music types from an early age including rock, hip-hop, jazz, funk and blues.
He discovered jazz as a teenager via artists like Pat Metheny, Soulive and Jamie Cullum, while continuing to show strong interest in all music genres.
In 2007, he received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Maine and by working and living with the best the music industry had to offer, Hayden re-defined his musical parameters.
Since then his journey onwards and upwards through the music industry has been gaining momentum and fan base, and he doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
The 23-year-old is a young veteran facing what any professional musician his age would want, a busy touring schedule, ever-growing success, and a quickly expanding fan base.
Hayden knows how lucky he is to be a full-time musician with no day job.
"I have the opportunity to actually make a real career doing music, make my living playing live gigs and producing and composing and that's something that unfortunately a lot of musicians can't actually say," he said.
"It's nice to make that actually happen."
Hayden will be playing songs from his first album and trying out new tunes since such performances are great opportunities to gauge audience response. He also plans to release his second album by year's end.
