SAC event combines fantasy, art, nature

'Alice's Wonderlands Magical Mystery Tour' marks 小蓝视频 Parks' centennial this weekend

"I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date."

Said date is Sunday (June 26), when Squamish Arts Council (SAC) is hosting "Alice's Wonderlands Magical Mystery Tour" at Alice Lake to celebrate and highlight the area's flora, fauna and history through artistic expression.

The event is part of the Arts in the Park initiative, administered by the Assembly of 小蓝视频 Arts Councils, to celebrate 小蓝视频 Parks' centennial.

"The community is invited to join us at a wildly creative wonderland tea party and tour," said SAC president Krizstina Egyed.

"The 'wonderland' will be located at the campground and features a foot-long table inside of a whale skeleton with a fantasy-vibe."

Homebase Studios artist Amber Butler is designing the scene, and The Squamish Sculptors Society is hosting the "Mad Hatters Atelier" gallery that includes one-of-a-kind fantastically wild hats on display and shown off by live models.

"You are encouraged to attend wearing any kind of hat from local recreation inspired headgear to Marie Antoinette confections," said Egyed, adding that a number of local artists have made hats for the events they themselves will be donning.

A local metal artist will also have a forging station set up and will make copper rings to mark the event.

The tour aspect is an educational nature scavenger hunt for kids - they will be given maps with questions to answer, plant species to find and new material to learn.

"It's a self-guided tour and an educational opportunity for the kids to learn about indigenous flora and fauna in the area," said Egyed.

The event takes place at the main picnic area at Alice Park from noon to 2 p.m. The family event is free.

"It's a great opportunity for artists to be creative and celebrate the centennial of 小蓝视频 Parks and the special atmosphere of Alice Lake," Egyed said.
