Sea To Sky Singers perform in Mining Museum

Annual spring concert presented at dramatic - and cold -聽venue

Step back in time with the Sea to Sky Singers at the Deep Longing spring concert at the 小蓝视频 Museum of Mining in Britannia Beach Friday (May 7) and Saturday (May 8) -but be sure to bring something warm to wear to the dramatic and cavernous venue.

"You can actually hear the water trickling through the rocks, so it feels somewhat outdoors still, even though you are indoors, and because it is an evening concert too, you won't have the luxury of being heated by the sunshine," said choral director Veronica McPhee.

"It's really important that people understand, if they're coming to that show that it is still cool and damp in there all year around."

Friday evening's show starts at 7 p.m. and will include pieces about mining, trains, pioneers and prospectors along with Canadian staples like Cape Breton's We Rise Again and Connie Kaldor's Wood River.

"There will be songs that people will recognize I think plus some new ones," said McPhee.

Concert goers will also be entertained by performances of well known pieces such as Chattanooga Choo Choo, Shenandoah, When I Fall in Love, Ain't Misbehavin' and Billy Joel's Goodnight My Angel but also by locally produced music.

The Sea to Sky Singers will also perform the locally written song Light the Flame by Squamish composer Joanna Schwarz, and audience members will be entertained by University of British Columbia professor Stephen Chatman's Songs of a Prospector, which takes listeners on a journey in to the historic 小蓝视频 mining and pioneering era.

Colleen Koop will accompany the 40-person choir throughout the two-hour show, and a few solo performances are also scheduled.

With a sound and light system at the evening performance, McPhee said the Friday show should turn out to be quite interesting.

"I think the venue will add a lot of interest for people."

For anyone who might not be able to make it out to the 小蓝视频 Mining Museum, a Saturday (May 8) afternoon show will be held at St. John the Devin Anglican Church at 3 p.m.

Admission to either show costs $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet, Highland Video and at the door.
