Dr. D and the Soul Demons are taking over the church.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, Squamish musician George McKenzie and his 10-piece band will belt out feet-shimmying tunes at the Harvest Moon Dance, a fundraiser at the St. John's Anglican Church. The one-time event is sure to be a blast, organizer Nelson Winterburn said. Nowadays there aren't many opportunities to kick up one's heels at a live-music dance, he said, noting that well-known musician McKenzie has kindly donated his time, so people can do just that.
"The music appeals to many different age groups," he said. "I am looking forward to a full house and lot of fun."
Money raised at the dance will go toward covering the cost of recent church roof repairs, Winterburn noted. Party-goers will get a chance to buy a key to a treasure chest crammed with $300 worth of surprises. There will also be spot prizes for those on the dance floor, Winterburn said, as well as a door prize. Beer and wine will be available. At the end of the night, people will be treated to dessert. Tickets cost $30 per person.
The Harvest Moon Dance will be a great night out on the town and a way to meet people in the community that you might not otherwise encounter, Winterburn noted.
Tickets can be bought at Billie's Bouquet, at 38082 Cleveland Ave., or at the gift shop in the Adventure Centre. They can also be bought at the church office at 1930 Diamond Rd.
