Still Dancing ready for big show

Local dance school gearing up for 'Dance the Music'

The Brennan Park auditorium was rocking on Sunday (June 3) thanks to the talented young performers of the Still Dancing group.

The group held a rehearsal for their "Dance the Music" shows that are set to take place on Saturday (June 9) at 2 and 7 p.m. Debbie Vidas, who runs the group, said things are looking good for the big show.

"I was very pleased with the children and just the whole atmosphere," she said. "The children came out and danced their hearts out and I think it was an enjoyable day for all of them."

Still Dancing, formerly the Garibaldi School of Dance, has more than 100 youngsters taking part in the event and Vidas said the children have been building toward the show since March. There will be a variety of dance styles at the show including: jazz, ballet, tap and hip-hop.

"It's all about having fun and being proud about what you've learned," Vidas said.

She added that during intermission popcorn and snacks will be sold with all proceeds going to the Blake family. Vidas noted that Jasmine Blake was a student in her school. She also thanked her fellow teachers Jane Runnals, Sara Stuart and Sarah Smith for all their help throughout the year. After the show, the school will take a summer break until Sept. 10.

Tickets for the show are $12.50 for adults and $8.50 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the Nature Nest, the Squamish Adventure Centre, and the Anglican Church and at the door.
