The name may have changed but come Saturday, July 30, at 9 p.m., it'll still be time put on that flannel shirt, grab your toque, and snap on those suspenders to get your stomp on at the annual Lumberjack Stomp.
Previously known as the Loggers Sports Stomp, the Lumberjack Stomp provides everyone with a chance to get in touch with their inner lumberjack and show that lumberjacks aren't just burly men and women in the forest but also can cut it up on the dance floor.
The Stomp has a long history with the Loggers Sports in Squamish and this will be its first year hosted at the Chances Boardwalk's Rock Bar and Grill.
"It's been around as long as I can remember," said Bryan Couture, Loggers Sports president. "I've been here 40 years; I think it's been at least that long. When I first moved here, it was first in the tennis courts, then it moved inside, and then it moved to the civic center. It's always been at the civic centre up until last year."
The Stomp hasn't been the same in previous years as the event used to attract live bands to its grounds to play music for all the stompers. "It's just a sign of the times, things are changing, people are changing. We don't have the crowd like we used to," Couture said.
The switch to the Rock Bar and Grill just goes to show that change is still happening, but this time it could prove to be just what the Stomp needs because the new venue offers more.
"It's a whole facility. It's not just a dance; there's a bunch of other stuff too," said Bianca Peters, director of marketing for Chances Boardwalk.
The Stomp follows the second annual Axe Throwing Invitational, which takes place that day outside of Chances Boardwalk. So after competitors put down their axes, it'll be time to head over to the Rock Bar and Grill and help keep the Stompin' tradition alive.
"It will be a great time for everybody, just keeping the Logger Sports tradition alive; we're honoured to have the stomp here," Peters said.
