Welcome to the crazy house

Shutter Island Director: Martin Scorsese Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley Rated: 18a Running time: 138 minutes

You know those people who, no matter how basic the plot of a film, they inevitably lean over and ask, "What just happened?" Or even worse are those who continually try to predict what will happen.

Yeah, you know them. Well you have two options. You can continue your vow of never going to a movie with these people ever again, or you can take them to see Shutter Island and take joy in watching their brain explode.

This movie has actually taken me a day to process, and I must say that is a good thing. In fact I would go so far as to recommend this film - although I wouldn't go so far as to classify it since it seems to skirt the line between thriller and crime drama with a hint of horror.

The film opens up with Leonardo DiCaprio as a US Marshal headed to an island for the criminally insane to investigate a disappearance. As you might guess crazy is as crazy does and the plot quickly descends into fractured reality and waking nightmares.

The casting director certainly deserves a standing ovation for this one, as every performance is spot on. Ben Kingsley is in top-notch form as usual and the German doctor is none other than Max Von Sydow AKA Brewmister Smith from the legendary Strange Brew film (that guy still gives me the creeps).

When it comes right down to it even the worst Martin Scorsese movie is better than most so you really can't go wrong walking into this one.
