So I hear "progressive" is now a dirty word. First American Republicans demonize the word "liberal" and now they are seriously going after progressive? Should we expect anything less from the people who enjoy going to war against words like "terrorism" and "drugs." Bunch of maroons.
Anyway, these people will probably be upset at this movie because while it bills itself as an action movie, it's more of an American-military-is-being-directed-by-ideological-idiots movie.
Don't get me wrong, that's a fine message, but hitting anyone over the head with it isn't going to get you anywhere. Especially if that audience came to watch Matt Damon run around and kill things.
So, what's this all about then? Based on the book Imperial Life In The Emerald City,
Damon is an army captain who heads up a unit whose job it is to find Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) in Iraq. An important job since these WMDs are why the USA shocked and awed Iraq into the Stone Age.
After finding nothing time and time again, Damon starts questioning the intel, which leads him down the corrupt leader line.
Damon then works with the CIA but they too fall secondary to the always delightfully-evil Greg Kinnear, here playing a Pentagon right wing nut whose lies are definitely not helping the Middle East problem.
This film tried to go in two directions, which is too bad because the shaky handheld camera work led to some very good action chase scenes.
However the "It was a lie!" message, although completely true and valid, is distractingly heavy-handed in this case.
