Not often, but sometimes people accuse film critics of being too harsh and even of not liking any films.
I can understand why. I happen to love good films and there are many that come through our theatre - however 2-D multiplexes such as ours do not get gold every week.
They basically get what they're given and with all the good there is way more bad.
But just because a film is bad does not mean it won't make money - case in point Resident Evil: Afterlife.
We can now say without a shadow of a doubt that if you combine an attractive woman with lots of guns, running and shooting zombies, you will make money.
And people will continue giving you money over and over and over until the end of time.
So to be fair, how can a critic such as myself honestly review the fourth sequel to a film based on a mediocre video game?
It is not good my friends. Yes there is an attractive lady shooting and running but heavens to murgatroid does this story lack any redeeming quality!
The villain is one of the weakest in cinematic history and the plot is nowhere to be seen.
Oh and in case you worry that since it's the fourth film you don't know what's going on - don't.
For the first hour Milla does a video diary every 10 minutes explaining what you just saw and what you're about to see. I wish I were making this up.
In the end, this film was released on the slowest weekend of the year and made millions of dollars.
So while I can't recommend this film, I can look forward to the fine fall films that surely must follow.
