ABOUT TOWN: Groups spring up with garage sales

The annual Hilltop House Support Society's garage sale is Saturday (May 29) from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There will also be a bake sale, craft sale and home-baked butterhorns and coffee will be available.

On Sunday (May 30) the Royal Canadian Legion is hosting its Spring Flight Springtime Sale from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., a garage, craft and bake sale. A pancake breakfast is available at the same time.



The Creative СÀ¶ÊÓƵions for Seniors forum will be held at the Sea to Sky Hotel on Thursday (June 3) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Topics for discussion include nutrition, safety, transportation, shopping, knowledge of services, support services and seniors' centre. The deadline to register is today (May 28) but if there are still seniors out there who would like to register, please call Dana at 604-892-2293 no later than Monday (May 31). Please be advised that transportation is available and you are asked to let Dana know when you register if you need this service.



The Squamish Public Library has another Knack to Knit session on Sunday (May 30) from 1 to 4 p.m. pre-registration is requested if you need supplies.



A reminder to teens ages 13 years and up that the next discussion group will meet at the Squamish Public Library on Tuesday (June 1) at 5:30 p.m. The book to be discussed is I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. There is still time to pick up a copy or if you wish more information, please call Alison at 604-892-3110 or email teenbookclub@ shaw.ca. On Tuesday, pizza and pop will be provided.



St. John's Anglican Church is pleased to have the Gallery Singers perform at the church on Sunday, June 6 at 3 p.m. This chamber choir from Vancouver is directed by Derrick Christian. As a special treat, St. John's Children's chorus directed by Tracy Stuchbery will also perform. Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet or at St. John's at $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, with children six years and under admitted free.



The 2004 Summer Programs brochure from Brennan Park Recreation Centre were delivered in the mail last week. If you did not receive one, drop by the Centre for your copy. It is a colourful brochure and filled with programs and activities for all members of the family. Golf lessons for eight- to 15-year-olds and tennis lessons for various ages are now ongoing and more information is available by calling 604-898-3604.



Multicultural Day hosted by the Squamish Nation is Canada Day (July 1). The more cultures that are represented on that day show the great diversity of our community. Please be advised the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at the Squamish Nation's Development Office at 100 Billy Rd. on the Stawamus Reserve. Many people take an Alaska cruise each year, but how many have had seven days filled with bright, sunny, warm weather for the entire cruise? Such was the wonderful experience Evelyn Dawson, Moneta Neighbour and I had while on board the Norwegian Sun from May 16 to 23. Also on board were Squamish residents Margaret Taylor and Rose Rozman and Horst and Heidi Wolter from Britannia Beach.



We all know that Thomas the Tank Engine is coming to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on the weekends of June 11-13 and June 18-20. There will be large crowds each day and volunteers are needed to help out. If interested, please call the WCRHP at 604-898-9336 and sign up for a shift.



The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 4 at the Chamber of Commerce office for a walk along the Estuary trails.



Plan on attending the 12th annual Star Search youth talent night at the Eagle Eye Community Theatre on Friday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m.
