ABOUT TOWN: Take time to remember

A large crowd is expected to attend the annual Remembrance Day service on Thursday (Nov. 11) at Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

A large crowd is expected to attend the annual Remembrance Day service on Thursday (Nov. 11) at Brennan Park Recreation Centre. The front half of the auditorium will be reserved for the parade contingent, so to ensure a seat please arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. Along with members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #277, the Black Tusk Caledonia Pipe and Drum Society Band will lead the parade into the auditorium. Participants will include RCMP, Ambulance and Fire Rescue, Army and Air Cadets and members of the Guiding and Scouting movement. Members of the Squamish clergy will lead the service.



Special guests in Squamish for Remembrance Day will be members from the ship HMCS Edmonton. Veterans and Legion president Louise Bennett will be guests on board the ship for a special tea following the service. It is hoped the ship will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m.



The laying of wreaths at the cenotaph at Stan Clarke Park is planned for approximately 12 noon. Legion members invite the public to join them at the Legion hall in the afternoon.



A traditional Veterans' Pow-Wow at Totem Hall will follow the memorials downtown on Nov. 11. Everyone is welcome and it would be appreciated if you could take along a non-perishable item for the Food Bank.



In connection with the Squamish "Creative 小蓝视频ions for Seniors" initiative of Vancouver Coastal Health, a meeting of the Transportation sub-committee has been convened for 2 p.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 10) at the Tantalus Seniors' Centre at 1414 Pemberton Ave. Anyone interested in working with this sub-committee, which is developing suggestions to make it easier for seniors to get around in our community, is warmly invited to participate.



It is good to know the 28th annual Squamish Fall Classic road run will go ahead and have a very special cause. The date is Sunday, Nov. 21 and the 5/10 km run or walk will be a fundraiser for the Angela James Memorial Scholarship. The organizer is Linda McHale, who felt this was a special way to honour her friend Angela, who succumbed to cancer in 1996. Entry forms are available at Sea to Sky Ocean Sports, Billie's Bouquet, Cut 'n Loose, Brennan Park Recreation Centre and the Eagle Run Coffee Company. The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will be selling tickets for its Christmas raffle this weekend (Nov. 5-7) at MarketPlace IGA.



This Sunday (Nov. 7) a special Remembrance Day service will be held at St. John's Anglican Church at 10 a.m., when the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #277 will Present the Colours. Following the service a tea will be held at the Legion.



The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors at the United Church's Trinity Hall on Fourth Avenue on Wednesday (Nov. 10) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.



Condolences to Shane and Rocky McCann and families on the passing of their mother Isabel McCann. Isabel and her late husband were long-time residents of Squamish. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at Totem Hall.



The Sound of Music will soon hit the stage at the Eagle Eye Theatre with shows set for Nov. 25-27 and Dec. 2-4, including matin茅es on Nov. 27 and Dec. 4. Tickets are now available at Billie's Bouquet and the two Squamish Credit Union branches at $10 for adults and $7 for children.



The Howe Sound Music Festival is an adjudicated music festival for students living and studying in the Howe Sound corridor. This festival offers classes in piano (ages 28 and under), voice (ages 33 and under), choral and band and is held in April of each year. In 2005, the fifth year of the festival, there will be performances by approximately 350 participants. Anyone currently teaching students from Squamish, Whistler or Pemberton who would like more information about the festival can contact Colleen Koop, Executive Director, at 604-898-5981 or email [email protected].



The Not Just for Seniors program on Community Channel 10 will feature Squamish resident Dennis McDougall on Tuesday (Nov. 9) at 7 and 10 p.m. and on Wednesday (Nov. 10) at 10 a.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.



Congratulations to Bob Valleau, who celebrated his 80th birthday on Oct. 23. It was a real surprise to Bob when he walked into the Squamish Yacht Club that afternoon to be greeted by many family members and friends. He's over the shock now and thanks everyone.
