The annual СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Thanksgiving Food Drive is returning to Squamish neighbourhoods at the end of September to collect non-perishable food items for those in need.

According to a news release, about 100 community volunteers will be delivering flyers and boxes to local neighbourhoods between Sept. 17 and 21. On Saturday, Sept. 23, those boxes will be picked up and delivered to the also known as The Market.

“"The annual СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Thanksgiving Food Drive is an incredible opportunity for the community to support the work we do at the Market (Squamish Food Bank), and to help us create access to nutritious food, in a dignified and empowering way,” said the manager of the food bank, Emma Cox, in the release.

“Your contributions — both food donations, and financial support — allow us to do what we do. We are so grateful for the support of our community, in helping us address food insecurity in the Squamish community."

In 2022, the volunteers visited 4,500 homes and collected about 5,000 pounds of food.

“Due to the increasing density and number of condos downtown, we are hoping to expand the number of condos participating in this year’s food drive. We can facilitate this by placing drop off boxes and flyers in common areas of condo units that would like to get involved,” reads the release.

The local drive is co-ordinated by the Squamish Multifaith Association in partnership with the Squamish branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Squamish Food Bank.
