The westbound lanes on the Capilano River Bridge are set for a long stretch of nightly closures to allow for some sorely needed roadwork.
Beginning Sunday, and continuing for up to two weeks, Highway 1 westbound will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. while crews repave the lanes.
Westbound highway traffic will be expected to detour via the Capilano Road off-ramp, down to Marine Drive and then back up Taylor Way 鈥 a 3.68-kilometre bypass.
鈥淭he current surface has a number of patches and potholes. The resurfacing will provide a smoother surface and prevent water from affecting the bridge鈥檚 substructure,鈥 a statement from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure read. 鈥淩esurfacing is weather-dependent work. The ministry has asked motorists to prepare for up to two weeks of overnight closures, in case the weather doesn鈥檛 co-operate.鈥
