A Squamish driver has been charged with stunt driving after being stopped by police in Ontario.
According to the, on April 14, shortly after 12:30 p.m., an OPP officer stopped a vehicle driven by the local on Highway 11 in the community of Moonbeam for travelling 116 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
The 59-year-old driver also received an immediate 30-day licence suspension and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
The driver could also face a fine of $2,000 to $10,000, and receive potential jail time, according to insurance brokerage Jeffery & Spence.
The charge has not been proven in court.
The driver is scheduled to appear in traffic court at a later date.
The eastern Ontario town of Moonbeam has a population of just over 1,000 and is known for and its flying saucer tourist attraction.
"Slow down and drive responsibly鈥攜our safety and the safety of others depends on it," reads the April 16 OPP post about the charge.
