Environmental stewardship also remains a central concern for the Nation.

The Skwx̩wú7mesh Nation will hold its third Constitution Gathering on Jan. 26, 2025, offering Nation members an opportunity to contribute to the development of its constitution.

The event will take place both in person at Totem Hall in Squamish, and Chief Joe Mathias Centre in West Vancouver, and online. Lunch will be served at noon, with the meeting scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m.

This event is strictly for Sẏwx̩wú7mesh Nation members only.

Key topics for discussion include:

  • Reflecting the Generational Plan commitments in S7ulh kwis Újxwumixw (Our Way of Being a Nation)
  • Protecting land, water and air for future generations
  • Strengthening collaboration within the Sẏwx̩wú7mesh community

To RSVP for the online or in-person event, visit https://constitutionproject.net/ .

The Generational Plan outlines long-term goals and strategies for sustainable development, cultural preservation and economic growth, according to their website.

Member feedback will help define how these values and strategies are formally adopted.

Environmental stewardship also remains a central concern for the Nation.

Discussions will focus on strategies to safeguard natural resources—land, water and air—for future generations. This includes exploring sustainable land management practices, conservation efforts and the impact of development projects on the environment.

Another focal point will be fostering unity within the Sẏwx̩wú7mesh community.

The Nation aims to address how governance structures can promote cooperation and mutual respect among members.

Feedback from the gathering will be incorporated into the constitution's development process. To learn more about the plan, read Squamish Nation to unveil 25-year roadmap for the future.
