Squamish school to use recycled tires in project

Valleycliffe Elementary given over 500 recycled tires by Tire Stewardship СÀ¶ÊÓƵ for playground project.

A Squamish school will soon use hundreds of recycled tires to help with a playground upgrade.

According to a news release from Tire Stewardship СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, Valleycliffe Elementary School will receive and use 530 scrap tires for a playground project at the school. The school was one of 10 projects chosen to receive tires throughout СÀ¶ÊÓƵ

“We are thrilled that we are able to help these cities and organizations through our TSСÀ¶ÊÓƵ 2023 Community Grant Program, and we know these projects will benefit from the inclusion of СÀ¶ÊÓƵ recycled scrap tires,” said Rosemary Sutton, the executive director for Tire Stewardship СÀ¶ÊÓƵ, in the release.

“Rubberized surfacing can be coloured, and is durable and low maintenance, which makes it a desirable choice for running tracks, waterparks, walkways and gathering areas as well as playgrounds.”

Other communities to receive recycled tires for projects included Saanich, Osoyoos, Vancouver, North Saanich, Cobble Hill, Sparwood, Langley, Prince George and North Vancouver. Over 27,000 tires will be used in the projects.

“Tire Stewardship СÀ¶ÊÓƵ collects and recycles scrap tires into new products, including playground surfaces, athletic tracks, horse mats, and garden mulch. Since 1991, over 100 million tires have been recycled in СÀ¶ÊÓƵ,” reads the release.
