Here are the briefs released to the media by the Squamish RCMP for the week of Feb. 28 to March 6.

Impaired driving

In two separate cases, motorists were banned from driving for 90 days and had their cars impounded.

In the first case, police say an officer saw a car speeding excessively on March 2. After making a check stop, RCMP allegedly found the driver was unlicensed and impaired. The motorist refused to provide breath samples.

In the second case, police were told of an erratic driver on Highway 99. Officers allege that the driver failed a breath test.

Boulder on highway

A large boulder fell onto Highway 99, north of Sunset Marina on March 3 at around 6:15 a.m.

One driver was able to swerve past the boulder, but a second vehicle didn’t.

That car received extensive damage, but the occupants were uninjured.

Stolen vehicle

Police are reporting that a blue 2008 Ford Escape was stolen from Mamquam River Forest Service Road  on March 3.

Officers say the theft occurred between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. that day, around the 1.5 and 2-kilometre marker.

Police have exhausted all leads, but will reopen the file if they receive new information.

Assist Fire Rescue

Police arrived on the scene of a structure fire after responding to a call for assistance from Fire Rescue on March 4 at about 6:15 a.m.

The fire was on the 38900-block of Progress Way in an abandoned building.

The fire was deemed not suspicious, the building was destroyed, and no one was injured.
