For the fifth consecutive year, the ladies of the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club (SVGCC) have won the annual Solheim Cup matches.

The event features a unique combination of three separate formats; 2-person best ball, alternate shot and singles match play. The matches were played in three consecutive weeks involving teams of female players from the SVGCC, Pemberton Valley Golf Club and Big Sky Golf and Country Club.In week one (June 5), the SVGCC ladies managed to tie the ladies from host course Pemberton Valley with two and a half points each, while Big Sky notched just a single point.

The following Monday during the alternate shot format at Big Sky, the Squamish gals took the lead by getting three-and-a-half points, one better than the host team. Pemberton was shut out.

Then, to make things even sweeter, the ladies won on home turf on a hot and sunny Test of Metal Saturday, posting a four-and-a-half point effort.

"We fought hard," said co-captain Judy Reid. "All of the matches were close. I'm really proud of all the ladies - they competed really well under pressure."

The Solheim Cup format is modelled after the International LPGA event of the same name, in which the top American players square off against Europe's top female professionals.

"The event was fantastic," said Reid. "Lots of laughs, lots of fun and all the ladies had a great time."

The Squamish Solheim Cup team was comprised of co-captains Judy Reid and Lorraine Henry, Pat Beauregard, June Eaton, Dora Rourke, Donna Lindsay, Pat McDonald, Trudy Wroblewski and Wendy Roberts.
