The Squamish Skating Club is holding a public "Pop Concert" at Squamish's Brennan Park Rec. Centre this coming Tuesday, (Nov. 21), for their competitive figure skaters, and the club has put out a call for new talent to join their skating programs at all levels.

"This is basically a dress rehearsal, and our skaters will perform their free skate solos. Wewelcome the community tocome out to see our skaters perform, free of charge, and wish them luck at upcoming competitions later this month," said Squamish Skating Club secretary Cynthia Eymundson.

Three coaches behind the scene, Eileen Murphy, Dominic Turgeon and Kari-Ann MacDonald, will offer different levels of skating instruction to newcomers.

The Canskate "learn to skate" program has two 45-minute sessions per week. Once badged from Canskate, skaters can branch to either Poweskate (most suited for hockey or ringette) or Junior Figure.

Skaters following the figure skating path can then pursue the "Test and Competitive" figure skating program, a 7- to 12-hour commitment that encourages skaters to "learn a variety of life skills, including goal setting, focus, time management and good sportsmanship," explained Eymundson.

Test and competitive skaters generally travel monthly to competitions that are held at various skating clubs, where they perform solo and compete against other skaters. Jingle Blades, held in White Rockon the weekend of Nov. 24-26, is this season's second club competition.

The club still has room in all of their programs, please contact Colleen McInnes at 604-898-3989 for additional information or to register.
