Gymnast seventh at Westerns

Squamish's Laura Galloway gave a strong performance at the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championship in Winnipeg April 21 to 23.

With an all-around score of 34.425, Galloway came in seventh for the women's provincial novice division. Galloway received an 8.8 for vault, 8.5 for bars, 8.2 for beam and 8.9 for floor.

STP toonie race

The next Squamish Off Road Cycling Association fundraising toonie race will be a benefit race for the Save the Plunge (STP) campaign.

The race is set for Saturday, May 7 starting at the Chieftain Centre. The start time is 11 a.m.

The course will take the riders over the Powerhouse Plunge.

The STP campaign is aimed at preventing the forest around the Powerhouse Plunge from being logged.

Local rally racers nominated for awards

Two rally racers from Squamish and another from Pemberton are nominees for Inside Track Magazine's Readers Choice Awards.

Joe Battrick and Patrick Richard are the Squamish drivers nominated along with Norm LeBlanc of Pemberton and five other Canadian rally racers.

The nominees were announced in the May 2005 edition of the magazine and at the publication's website.

Voting closes June 3 and the magazine reports the winners will be announced in an upcoming edition.
