Maya Mikkelsen opened the 2023 Canada Winter Games with and she's taking home some more hardware.
On Feb. 24, Mikkelsen led Team 小蓝视频 in the women's single moguls competition with a silver medal. The Whistler native put together a 68.83-point effort, bettering her qualifying round score of 65.35.
Lynette Conn of Squamish joined Mikkelsen on the podium with 64.63 points and a bronze medal. Conn ended up fifth in the qualifying round, but managed to level up her game when it mattered most.
Victory went to Ashley Koehler. The Team Quebec skier was the only athlete to break 70 points all day, with 76.25 in qualifying and 72.48 in the final.
Meanwhile, Cole Carey was the top 小蓝视频 contender in the men's single moguls event. Carey, from Panorama, was the fifth-best athlete in qualifying but rallied to earn bronze with his score of 73.91 in the final.
Louis-David Chalifoux (79.25) and Mavrick Sauve (76.46) of Quebec won gold and silver respectively. Whistler's Alex Mysko was unable to replicate his winning ways in aerials and settled for fifth (71.43).
The will continue until March 5, bringing together 3600 athletes, managers and coaches across 20 different sports for the largest multi-sport event in the country.
