Pooches of the Sea to Sky corridor can unite in an all breed sanction match on Saturday (June 9).

Organized by the Whippet Club of 小蓝视频, a sanction match is a competition where purebred dogs compete, but not for championship points.

Organizer Carol Adley, of the Whippet Club of 小蓝视频 said the event is more of a training ground for officials, judges, stewards, handlers and dogs."Our club is trying to put on events locally, in the past everything took place in the Lower Mainland," she said.

"We're trying to spread out our activities to other areas, I live in Squamish and really haven't noticed any events here so we decided to organize one."

Classes at the match are divided by age, and there is even a category for dogs as young as three months. No experience is necessary for either dog or handler.

Dogs compete in their own class within each breed, then with the winners of other classes in their breed, then in the Best of Breed with other breeds in their group.

Finally, the group winners compete for Best in Match and Best Puppy in Match.

"The dogs enjoy it enormously. If you want to learn something about showing a dog, it's a good way to start," continued Adley. "People often think if it's a new activity, it's intimidating - this way they can get advice and pointers. We just want people to come out and have fun."

The sanction match also offers special graduate classes for dogs with more experience who have earned bfive or more pointes towards their championship and classes for altered dogs (those that are spayed or neutered).

A free green handling class will be offered from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. where participants can learn basic ring procedure and how to best present your dog to a judge.

"It's really just a day out for local people something they can do with their dogs," said Adley.

"If you go to anything in Squamish there is always a whole slew of dogs there, so people obviously like doing things with their dogs."

The match takes place at 1015 Raven Dr. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and judging takes place at 11 a.m. Entry is $6 per dog. For more information, call Adley at 604-898-1966 or 604-815-3199.
