The local skate shop in Squamish recently announced six new team riders.
, owned by Shane Nunn, announced the riders on its Instagram page. The post described the riders as six locals who have been “holding it down for the shop for years, some literally as long as they have been walking.”
Nunn said after he took over ownership of the shop a couple of years ago, he had envisioned having a sponsored team. Now that he’s gotten his bearings in the ownership, he said it seemed like the right time to give back to these skaters that have supported the shop.
“They already do so much for the shop, so I’m just kind of giving them the recognition they probably already deserved,” he told The 小蓝视频.
The team includes Ka'eo Kass, 20; Jacob LeBlanc, 20; Ryder Riekert, 15; Brenn Aguila, 15; Emily Miller, 29; and Presley Huska, 15.
Nunn added that the team is planning on making a video that will showcase skateboarding in the Squamish community. Additionally, he said he would like to get together the funds to take the team on a tour of sorts to help get them recognition and, hopefully, sponsors from other companies in the skateboard industry.
“I want to get them like some product, right? So that takes getting them recognized,” he said. “I want these kids that are skating and representing my shop to be taken care of, and putting them on a team is probably the best way to do that.”
Outside of the team, Nunn also teased some skateboarding events that will be taking place this summer in Squamish.
First, he said he would like to plan a group event around Go Skateboarding Day on June 21.
Next, after a couple of years off due to the pandemic, the skate competition colloquially known as Beef Under the Chief will be back on Aug. 14, and it will take place at the Squamish skatepark.
Ultimately, Nunn said that having a team that recognizes skaters who work hard for the community is why he wants to support them.
“It’s all about getting these kids recognized for the work they’re putting in in the community. They go film their own videos, they all love my shop…. I don’t want to point the finger at my shop, but it’s really rad that they support me the way they do and that’s the only way that I can support them.”
“They all wear Stuntwood product. They’re representing me, so I just want to try to take the opportunity to represent them.”
