QMJHL postpones start of playoffs as five teams pause for COVID investigation

MONTREAL — The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League says the beginning of the President's Cup playoffs has been postponed until further notice after two teams announced positive COVID-19 tests.

MONTREAL — The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League says the beginning of the President's Cup playoffs has been postponed until further notice after two teams announced positive COVID-19 tests.

The league said in a release that the Gatineau Olympiques and Quebec Remparts each recorded a positive test, and both teams are putting their activities on hold while public health officials investigate.

The league said three teams that recently played against the Olympiques and Remparts — the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Rimouski Oceanic — are also pausing their activities during the investigation

The league says Players and staff from the five teams are in isolation and being tested and contact tracing is underway.

The QMJHL was the only one of three Canadian major junior leagues to open play around its normal start date this season, but the 2020-21 campaign has been interrupted repeatedly by positive tests and regional COVID-19 restrictions.
