QMJHL Roundup: Wildcats try to mount comeback, lose in overtime to Sea Dogs

MONCTON, N.B. — Jeremie Poirier scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Saint John Sea Dogs a 5-4 win over the Moncton Wildcats Saturday.

MONCTON, N.B. — Jeremie Poirier scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Saint John Sea Dogs a 5-4 win over the Moncton Wildcats Saturday. 

The Sea Dogs raced out to a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play thanks to goals from Peter Reynolds, Charlie DesRoches, and a pair of goals from Vladislav Kotkov. 

Maxim Barbashev scored Moncton's lone goal through 40 minutes, but he helped set the comeback in motion when he scored his second of the game in the third period. Jacob Hudson also scored two goals for the Wildcats, tying the game at 4-4. 

Poirier would score his game-winner at 4:44 of the overtime period while his team was on the power play. 

Sea Dogs goalie Noah Patenaude made 21 saves on shots (7-6-3-1). Moncton goalie Dakota Lund-Cornish made 31 saves on 36 shots in a losing effort (6-8-1-0).

ISLANDERS 4 EAGLES 2 

SYDNEY, N.S.— A three-goal third period powered the Charlottetown Islanders to a 4-2 win over the Cape Breton Eagles Saturday. Lukas Cormier scored twice for Charlottetown. Ben Boyd and Cedric Desruisseaux also scored for the Islanders. Cape Breton got goals from Emile Hegarty-Aubin and Nathan Larose in the loss.
