Victoria's Secret closes flagship Vancouver store suddenly

The spot has been a library, a music shop, and a lingerie store. What's next?

One of Vancouver's most well-known retail spaces is going to be empty again.

Victoria's Secret is clearing out of 750 Burrard St. (also known as 969 Robson St.); workers were dismantling the store Jan. 16 and a sign on the storefront announced its closure.

When it in 2013, it was the second-largest store in North America for the famed lingerie company. However, in the intervening years, the international .

While another location in the city's core is likely incoming at Pacific Centre, there are only two Victoria's Secret locations in Metro Vancouver for now: Metrotown and Guildford. There are no other stores listed in the province (not even Victoria). A location at Tsawassen Mills Mall closed recently.

The building being vacated is a high-profile location in Vancouver. Prior to being a Victoria's Secret, it was one of the largest music stores in Canada, as it was a Virgin Megastore (the only one) and then an HMV from 1996 to 2012.

It wasn't originally a store, though, as the was the building's first tenant from 1957 to 1995, serving as its central branch.
