Coun. Peter Kent seeks a seat on Nanaimo council

Kent named lack of supportive housing one of his key concerns
1

Squamish Coun. Peter Kent is running for council in his new-old home of Nanaimo.

The Nanaimo News Bulletin reports that Kent is seeking office and has named the lack of supportive housing as one of his driving concerns.

鈥淐ouncil needs to buckle down and start rezoning some of that land in order to make it usable so we can go to the 小蓝视频 Housing commission and say, look, we have Plan A, but also B, C and D as well,鈥 Kent told The Bulletin. 鈥淚 think that was the failing of the Chase River project 鈥 there was no fallback plan.鈥

Kent grew up in Nanaimo before leaving to pursue a career as a Hollywood stuntman and wound up at one point being the double for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Eventually, he settled down in Squamish and won a seat on council, but announced this year that he would be leaving town to return to Vancouver Island.

Kent, who has served for one term in Squamish, started his time in office by going up in flames 鈥 literally.

He made headlines around the province by setting himself on fire to celebrate a higher vote turnout in the district.
