Victoria-based StarFish Medical will continue its expansion south of the border.

The medical technology company announced Monday the acquisition of California-based Omnica Corp., which specializes in designing and engineering medical devices.

This acquisition will expand StarFish’s footprint to the Golden State, where Omnica's owns a 25,000-square-foot facility in Irvine, Calif. There, it develops surgical devices and monitoring equipment, among other products.

StarFish said it plans on retaining Omnica’s staff.

“Omnica's prototyping capacity is unparalleled in the industry. I'm looking forward to joining forces to amplify the support we can offer to medical technology companies,” said StarFish Medical CEO Scott Phillips in a release.

This is StarFish’s second acquisition in the last seven years, having acquired Toronto-based Kangaroo Group in 2017. With its latest acquisition, the company now has 250 full-time workers in the North America.
