Make no mistake: the 2024 brought the fun on its 25th anniversary, and from the very beginning.
Like with 鈥淪i Si Si鈥�! It's the song that Carlos Vives opened the night with in his medley, and a perfect distillation of the spirit of the night. There's a lot to say 鈥測es鈥� to 鈥� especially when he was joined by fellow Colombian musicians Juanes, Sebasti谩n Yatra and Camilo.
He was honored as the Latin Grammys Person of the Year at a ceremony the night before, and given his award on stage Thursday night by Past winners include Laura Pausini, Marco Antonio Sol铆s, Rub茅n Blades and more.
The first award of the night was given out shortly thereafter: to Car铆n Le贸n for his 鈥淏oca Chueca, Vol. 1.鈥� Then Joe Jonas and Ela Tauber teamed up for a bilingual take on her viral hit, 鈥溌緾贸mo Pas贸?鈥�
Performances hit hard and fast from there: Kali Uchis, Elena Rose, Myke Towers with 鈥淟a Falda鈥� into 鈥淟ala鈥� and Juan Luis Guerra鈥檚 brought his modern merengue 鈥淢ambo 23,鈥� the song would earn him record of the year later in the night. Danny Ocean鈥檚 鈥淎mor鈥� bled into 脕lvaro D铆az鈥檚 emo-trap rock 鈥淨ui茅n te quiere como el nene.鈥�
Anitta brought bossa nova to the award showing, paying tribute to her fellow Brazilian.
Traditional pop vocal album went to Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Kany Garc铆a for her album, 鈥淕arc铆a.鈥� And Draco Rosa won pop/rock album for his 2024 record, 鈥淩eflejos de Lo Eterno.鈥�
Karol G won m煤sica urbana album 鈥淢a帽ana Ser谩 Bonito (Bichota Season).鈥� Pop vocal album went to Luis Fonsi for 鈥淓l Viaje.鈥�
It's a big year: the three-hour award show is held at the Kaseya Center in Miami, in a time when Latin music genres have never been bigger globally. It is airing live on Univision, UniM谩s, Galavisi贸n and ViX.
Most of the awards at the Latin Grammys are presented a few hours before, at the Latin Grammy Premiere. There, 脡dgar Barrera 鈥� and songwriter known for his work with such artists as Madonna, Karol G, Peso Pluma, , Grupo Frontera and beyond 鈥� who led the nominations for a second year in a row, picked up three trophies. Nathy Peluso did the same.
Barrera was up for nine awards; last year he received 13 nominations and won three. This year, he took home songwriter of the year, producer of the year and best regional Mexican song 鈥� alongside Keytin 鈥� for cowriting Grupo Frontera and Grupo Firme鈥檚 鈥淓l Amor de Su Vida.鈥�
