Delays coming between these Burnaby-New West SkyTrain stations for the next 2 years

Expo Line trains running between Braid station and Production Way-University will only run every 12 minutes beginning Feb. 10.

"Significant" changes are coming to the SkyTrain's Expo Line between certain stations in Burnaby and New West for the next two years.

Beginning Feb. 10, TransLink will run Expo Line trains through Braid, Lougheed Town Centre and Production Way-University every 12 minutes instead of every six to 10 minutes.

TransLink says the new schedule is necessary for the construction of the new SkyTrain operations and maintenance centre in Coquitlam, near Braid station, according to a press release.

"This change is necessary to allow crews to safely connect SkyTrain rails to TransLink’s newest operations and maintenance centre in Coquitlam, which will store new SkyTrain vehicles," said the release, adding, "The new service pattern allows for crews to work safely in the guideway between Braid and Lougheed Town Centre stations."

TransLink advises travellers who ride through those stations to plan for extra time in their commute.

Some Expo Line trains will also terminate early at Braid station, instead of Production Way, before returning to Waterfront, meaning customers should be sure to check the train's destination sign before boarding. (Eastbound trains will now have three different possible terminus stations: King George, Production Way and Braid.)

"At Sapperton and Braid stations, customers should pay close attention to next-train destination signs, because both platforms will have some trains heading to Waterfront to maximize service frequencies at those stations," added the release.

Service on the Millennium Line, Canada Line and the rest of the Expo Line will be unaffected by the changes, according to the release.
