A name associated with colonialism will be removed from Richmond’s Terra Nova neighbourhood.
Trutch Avenue will be renamed to Point Avenue to honour former 小蓝视频 lieutenant-governor Steven Point, who was the first Indigenous person to hold this office.
Point was a resident of Steveston and has close ties to Richmond, explained Mayor Malcolm Brodie when he made the announcement at Monday’s council meeting.
There are also many Musqueam people from the Point family who live in Steveston.
Point served as lieutenant-governor from 2007 to 2012.
JosephTrutch, the first lieutenant-governor of 小蓝视频 was known for his contempt for First Nations and actively worked against land claims.
In fact, Trutch reduced some First Nations reserves by up to 90 per cent and spoke with open contempt for Indigenous people.

Vancouver is also planning to rename Trutch Street, located on the city's west side.
