Canada has more business-event destinations on a global sustainability index than any other country, according to a just-released report.

All of the 20 Canadian business destinations have agreed to be part of , which uses a benchmarking process that the tourism marketer has devised. It follows the Global Destination Sustainability Index, which measures and suggests how to improve sustainability at events by using 69 indicators to evaluate destinations on environmental and social progress, and supplier and destination-management performance.

There are some glitches in the  given that it says that Canada has 20 "new" destinations on its list. It then lists 13 "new" Canadian cities, and three "returning" cities in is index. No one from that organization was immediately available to explain the anomaly.

The 16 Canadian cities that the GDSM notes are on its index include:
鈼 Banff Lake Louise;
鈼 Calgary;
鈼 Edmonton
鈼 Halifax;
鈼 Kelowna;
鈼 Montreal;
鈼 Niagara Falls;
鈼 Ottawa;
鈼 Charlottetown;
鈼 Quebec City;
鈼 Saskatoon;
鈼 St. John's;
鈼 Toronto;
鈼 Vancouver;
鈼 Victoria; and
鈼 Winnipeg

Destination Canada in an email told BIV that the four cities that should have been mentioned in the report were:
• Canmore & Kananaskis;
• Elora & Fergus;
• Stratford; and
• St. Jacob’s.
