The Repair Cafe is headed back to Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Repair Cafe is meant to help people fix items around the house that some folks may not have the tools or expertise to fix themselves. The volunteers at the event will help for free.
“Whether it's missing buttons, a crooked stool, a broken photo frame or jewelry with a wacky clasp, bring it to the Repair Café,” reads the District of Squamish’s website about the event.
Items or activities that the volunteers can help with include:
- Small appliances and electronics
- Furniture
- Sewing and patching holes in clothing
- Bikes
- Jewelry
- Extension cords needing new ends or wiring
- Tools that need new cords or handle
- Cordless tools
- Repairing wooden boxes
- Toys and board games
People can enjoy a coffee or tea and lend a hand on some repairs if they have the expertise. Part of the cafe's goal is to spread repair knowledge, so those receiving a repair job need to stick nearby.
Other goals include promoting social cohesion by connecting neighbours.
