Squamish vigil aims to keep Daniel Reoch's memory alive

Family seeks closure as four-year anniversary of S岣祑x瘫w煤7mesh 脷xwumixw man's disappearance passes.

It has been four long years since he went missing, and Daniel Reoch's family and loved ones don't want him forgotten.

Reoch was 29 when he disappeared in the Squamish Valley on Nov. 25, 2019.

A prayer and candlelight vigil attended by about 30 people was held for him on Nov. 26, at Junction Park and O'Siyam Pavilion.

Key-le-la Dawn Harry, the mother of Reoch's two young children, said she wants to keep his memory alive for them.

"I know, my kids right now are kind of feeling it. We've been talking about him," she said, before the vigil.

The children, aged nine and seven, didn't go to the first vigil, held in 2020, because they were very young, and Harry hadn't said too much to them about him being missing for fear of scaring them.

Now they know.

"So this time, I want to be able to include them," she said.

Recently, her daughter brought home a picture she had drawn of her dad. She brought it to the vigil.

"I just wanted to be able to put more of him out there so that people can start talking and, hopefully, maybe, something can come of it. Just to refresh everybody," she said, of wanting to hold a vigil.

Relative of Reoch, Crystal Lewis, organized the event, which saw singing, drumming and loved ones sharing thoughts about the missing man.

"We miss him. The kids miss him a lot. They still remember him. We want to be able to get answers for the kids," said Harry.

Reoch is a member of the S岣祑x瘫wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation); he's 175 centimetres (five-feet, nine inches) tall and weighs 68 kilograms (150 pounds).

He has brown hair and brown eyes.

If you have information regarding Reoch's disappearance, contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100. File # 2020-121.
