VANCOUVER — Though the wildfire season in СÀ¶ÊÓƵ this year has been less intense than last year's record destruction, drought conditions persist in many regions and the situation could worsen, Emergency Minister Bowinn Ma has warned.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Gilma strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane Wednesday afternoon in the eastern Pacific Ocean and was forecast to become a major hurricane as soon as Thursday.

A study out of the University of British Columbia recently found migrant workers in the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Okanagan living in extreme heat conditions beyond what the Western Agricultural Labour Initiative guidelines allow.

Extreme temperatures seen in 2023 were equivalent to some climate projections for 2050, says the study.

The Calcite Creek fire in British Columbia's southern Interior is no longer considered a "wildfire of note," leaving three such blazes throughout the province.

Various organizations have come together to create the Seniors Climate Action Day initiative on Oct. 1.

Observations from a helicopter show the river flow is "evening out," and murky conditions are getting better, though the flow is still much higher than normal.

For the next two days, more thunder and lightning are possible for Metro Vancouver.
